Application

The first step in being paired with a service dog is to inquire:

If we think we can successfully meet your needs, we can progress to the next step which is a phone interview with the prospective recipient. This will allow both parties to get all pertinent questions answered, and further determine if we can continue the process. At this point we will mail an application, which will contain many of the same questions discussed during the phone interview. After application, if possible, we will conduct a personal interview (or a video interview). This will allow us to learn more about you, your routine, what adaptive technologies you utilize, and your living quarters.

If all goes well, and we feel assured that we can meet your needs, we will arrange a contract and deposit, and begin the search for a dog.

Tom training Morty to track

Once a dog has been selected, training begins. Training time varies greatly with the age of the dog, and the tasks it will be required to perform. Ordinarily, training time is between six and ten months.

At the end of the training period, pairing and bonding and handler training begins. At this point we will personally deliver the dog and spend anywhere from 7 to 14 days transitioning the dog into your home. Along with this goes intensive handler training.

Once dogs are trained and placed with a recipient, they are fitted with a vest for use in public. All carry laminated identification, laminated certification, and a laminated copy of the access law in the event of an access challenge.

After you have welcomed the new addition into your home, we will periodically follow up with any questions or issues you might have. Likewise, if any behavioral quirks pop up, we are available for a free "tune up".
